I agree with you. My students, if they pay full fee, pay $50k a year for this school. To pay that, and then NOT get the value of learning… it is like buying a porsche and then hiring a chauffer.

Interesting experiment Jordi.
I’ve only ever had one case where I suspected a student of purchasing an online paper. When I asked her if she’d done it, she didn’t even bother denying it. She just said “can you prove that to the board?” Of course I couldn’t, since it was entirely possible that the pure crap she’d turned in all semester long was simply the result of sheer laziness, and she’d finally applied herself. When I said “how could I?,” she just got up and left–no embarrassment, no sigh of relief, not even a “see you later.”
A few years later I heard from another alum (he’d helped her get a job with the same company he worked for) that she’d been fired for ethical lapses and/or incompetence. No surprise–those chickens have a way of coming home to roost.
The poetic justice is satisfying. But it is worrying that we have no way to try and verify our suspicions…
