There is no racial equality in the United States. Due to racial discrimination of all forms, certain races have been oppressed in many different aspects of society. In this paper, a comparison of unemployment rates and income between white and black Americans show that current policies are not effective in creating equal opportunity for people of all races. The problem stems from education. In the United States, local municipalities fund a large portion of the public education system. This results in an embedded system of racial discrimination. For example, a “white” area will typically have a better education system than a “black” area because white Americans make more income and have more wealth. To fix this, we need to reconfigure the proportions of funding from federal, state, and local governments. By fixing our education system, our country will provide more equality in opportunity.
